Project Description

This course provides guidelines and recommendations o techniques for sampling and sampling preservation to help ease these problem.  In this course will examine all the parameters involved in sampling procedures and reference to international standards for sampling wastewater.

Why Attend

Obtaining representative samples and maintaining their integrity are critical parts of any monitoring or enforcement program. Analytical methods have been standardized, but the results of analyses are only as good as the sampling and the sample preservation methods.

The purpose of this course is to present the best techniques currently available for sampling and sample preservation. The recommendations were developed after an extensive literature review and survey of current laboratory and field practices. The course will allow personnel to determine the most effective procedures for their specific applications.

The course starts with an overview on the framework of wastewater sampling and analysis and the importance for the acquisition of scientifically reliable and legally defensible data. Some background information necessary for the participants to better understand the subsequent course section, such as review on wastewater chemistry, statistics for data analysis and regulations relevant to sampling and analysis. In following the course introduce the fundamentals of WW sampling—where and when to take samples, how many, how much, and how to take samples from air solid media. Examples of equipment used in sampling will presented with description of their operation.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, among various achievements, participants will get specialist insight into:

  • Improve awareness of the sampling techniques available and therefore application of the most fit for purpose option

  • Acquire an integrated overview of many techniques and procedures used in sampling for crude oil, petroleum products, polymers, petrochemicals, industrial chemicals and related wastewater.

  • Solve sampling problems in cost effective and timely manner

  • Assess values and limitations of each sampling technique and be prepared to make practical choices to apply in the solution of difficult problems

  • Evaluate the importance of sampling, separation procedures and data treatment in problem solving

  • Apply all the relevant safety rules during the sampling procedures

  • Labelling of samples

  • Discuss hazardous of WW and safety issues of WW sampling
